DMR sidekicks and VP components are both good for price/performance.
Other's will do too; look for flat, or platform pedals. Pedals with pins usually for great, but you'll be paying more for new shoes every few months.

I run shimano DX platforms... they are strong grippy and good. Had them for almost 2 years, so the pins on the left pedal are all worn away but eh?... they are a little pricy though, when i got them they retailed for $200. They DMR V8's are not bad... grippy, good cage design... I personally like a bit of concave in the pedal to help the foot sit in it. The V12's are there top of the line.. they have better quality bearings, so they will last longer, and also stronger axels, so you don't bend them in a hurry. The DMR's are around the 100-150 price range I think?? Or you can run cages if you like... I personaly likt my platforms.

you may have that problem with the new pedals as well... they are prob coming out in one of 2 ways... one ripping out taking the tread with them... or 2 coming slightly lose and then getting ripped out... try removing them (if you still can) and loctiting them in... other than that try looking for cnc machined cages. They should be a bit stronger than the cast alloy of the DMR's.
