hey Rex was cool to have you along. me n Robin have got some frames hanging around, the one I've got is just a 14inch Avanti MTB frame, it's got some cranks in it with a small bashguard and I think it may even still have a headset in too. I've also got a good quality bar/stem to go on it. Robin has a Specialized RockHopper frame, I'm sure he'll fill ya in on the details HS33's are pretty much the standard rear trials brake(lotsa $$), although V brakes can be set up to have ample bite. AK from Canberra (hiya Adam) was over here for a while and he was killing any obstacles in his path using only V brakes. Remember you'll need a reasonable rear wheel. etc etc

Pieter still swears by V-brakes; and he does impressive stuff also!
I have a rockhopper hanging around - has a home-done (crappy) paintjob, and must warn you it has been welded at cracks; but seems fine now. You can just have the bare frame if you want it. (gotta promise you come riding with us!) There's a good shimano BB and Raceface headset in it though I'll ask a bit for if you want them. Don't have cranks for you.
Whatever you decide to get post it here and we will help you set it up properly.

oh one more thing, what kind of gearing setup are you guys using, i had a look at the bikes and it seemed like a road cassete with only 3 or 4 gears? how much would something like that be, or is it possible to go singlespeed?

Brakes; hs33s are around $250 per wheel but you can get em for $280 a pair on ebay go the V's for $20 i'd say! You can always upgrade later. Gears; Run a 20 or 22 front cog (depends on what bashring). can run a full 8 speed rear cassette, but shorten the chain and preferably run a short cage derailleur - you won't be using bigger on the rear than what you're running on the front (I think the other guys run 20 front, 18 rear). Stock bike rules are 5 (or 6?) working gears. I run 6 gears from a 8 speed road cassette (with the top 2 removed). I've got a 6 speed hub. You'll be going the full 8 speed - just fill with spacers or leave the full cassette! So maybe grab a second hand mountain bike and swap out the frame and fork, ditch the front shifter and run the bashring. Make sure the rear rim is fairly sturdy but not rediculously heavy. me and luke have DX32 rear rims. We'll have to see what sorta 2nd hand hardtail you can get for around $400. Dave can tell ya how to make a bashguard yourself, so maybe all you need is the 2nd hand bike and robins frame. Oh and steal an old chromo fork from the back of a bike shop at night hehe. Anyway, it's up to you! You might like to check out the prices of a new raceline rhino 20" and 26", they used to be really cheap but they are a bit more nowadays maybe? not sure.

common gearing is 22(front), 18(rear). basic roadie cassettes AND a roadie derailleur (Sora is common). um, no pics but can bring it along for next time you're out ;D V brakes will do fine (ive even considered going back to V's at times ) I think the Rockhopper is slightly smaller than my Avanti.

i think i might go for a nice little avanti, as putting in cranks ect scare me, how much are you wanting for the lot Dave? ive got like 30 bucks currently so i may have to save some more though, ah well, i think i should go for a build up, as going out and buying a complete bike is in the 400 bucks ballpark isnt it?, and im a bit screwed no money coming for my birthday as i need a new fullface motorbike helmet, i can barely get mine over my head..... , so i think i may start from a frame, often you can pick up ridgid forks second hand from the tip ;D so i may check there, i think ill start out with a cheapy and upgrade as i get money/kill things, im only 45kg but i pack a punch though im not too hard on parts, lists of kills includes an alex bmx rim though, that just scared me when i killed it....enough of a ramble about killed parts though, do you guys think this is the way to go i personally do so now looking for opinions and bits and pieces

Well, I'm sure me'n dave can work something out for you. His frame is still quite nice so he'll probably want a few bucks for it. Mine's fairly trashed (but pretty rideable) so you can have it.
What do you need all up? You can have my frame with BB, no headset. I can also give you a rear wheel - Mammoth laced to an XTR hub. But the hub is trashed so you'll want a new one I think. Maybe if you ask him nicely and do him sexual favours you might get dave's crankset and other bits for a good price?

Rhino's are pretty popular in WA. Cheap-but-hardy beginner bikes. Huxter has a good deal on his website at the moment: Monty X-Alp with Maguras for $395! If you want that let me know quick and I'll get it in for you. www.monty.com.auI'd almost be tempted to buy the bike and strip off the maguras!
