Any suggestions? I wouldn't mind having a fun comp on the freo rocks. Also, I still want to ride the cottesloe beach area sometime. Prefer sunday.
Like Luke said we also need to chat a little about what to do with regards to building stuff. Again, my place is available for bbq and movies or something. We still need to have a look at the Albany trip video too!
Any other preferences?

SOunds good robin, I really want to focus on rock riding and natural to try and build some base skills on that kind of stuff.
If people can remember try and document your ideas and hand them in to me to see if we can source the materials to construct them. The boxes are certainly in the pipe, after I beat the dog poo out of the workshop people. I though a good portable balance beam would also be cheap, easy to put together and provides good spectical for demo's just and idea. Also Brad could update on the Zanzi bar thing, I heard it had been moved forward.

Better off riding on saturday maybe. Less chance of rain in the morning. Looks worthless for both days and windy.

cant ride sat, got other things on.
update on the zanzi demo already up... still waiting on the tickets, Mark was goingto mail them to me.
regarding the balance beam, a really good idea is to cut some holes out of the ply on the boxes to fit a beam into them. This makes a easy way of linking them, gives you a balnce beam, and provides you with some handles to lift the box with.
regards the boxes, we need to get serious with making them, I'll go and get some ply on the weekend to start with, so we can cover them when they are made.

Excellent idea on the beam, Brad as I said in the SMS could you give me some measurements. We wanted 3 boxes right? that can fit inside each other but are high but no to high to be unstable? also they should fit snug into a trialer. If you dont have them on hand, I will go and measure the demensions on jonos trailer and make it slightly smaller about 3 cm's on each side. I did have a good set of measurements I made up myself but have misplaced them. As soon as I get an idea of the exact measurements I can get a quote on the steel tubing again, this time I'm going to pay so the workshop dont get mixed up. Also I think some sort of ruuber should be affixed to the bottom to avoid them slipping when in use. I'll try to do up an drawing(cobert to JPEG) with all the little extras(like rubber feet) tonight and post tomorrow(dave dont give my drawing dog poo ok I not an engineer). We could optimise there use by adding in other " Attachments" like the balance beam and maybe an incline beam maybe even a attachable step up ladder like on the mad rig. I will see hwat the different options cost. have to make sure that someone can weld them as I have no idea how long this would take a pro welder. based on the stuff they do out there, this is an eyes shut job.

Ok, in that case try for sunday 2pm freo? Expect it to be wet and windy, if it gets too bad we'll go to someones home.
We can spread the cost of building stuff across all of us just let us know.

If the boxes are 2meters x 2meters x 1 meter and with the applicable bracing and additional framing on the top side for the plywood to go on the costs would be as follows.(the other boxes will oviously be slightly smaller than the last to allow them to be stacked inside each other, but only just that bit smaller)
All up the design requires 84 meters of steel tubing to complete the 3 boxes so this provides a ball park as they come in lenghts of 6 meters and as a result will probobly realistically need more as there will be wastage
Prices
Reasonably strong 25mm x 25mm x 2mm tubing = $3.84 meter = $322.56
Could knock it down with a bulldozer
50mm x 50mm x 2mm tubing = $7.59 meter = $637.00
The first one I can fork out myself, but I still gota figure how to get it welded is it is a bit of work, hopefully a carton job with the Work Shop

I reckon 25x25mm would do it if it's braced properly. I could check some salvage yard prices for the square section pipe.
Do these estimates include the plywood?? It's not cheap stuff, and unless it's marine grade or similar it doesn't last long once wet (from skateramp construction experience). May be similar price to use light gauge steel sheet for surfacing.

I'm for the 25x25 as well, steel should hold. 50x50 pushes the price up excessively I think.
As for rusting, as long as all sides are covered with painted plywood, it should be allright? Besides, a spray can of that rustproofing stuff we should be able to obtain at bunnings. And when we leave them out, we can cover them in tarp or something.
Plywood will add some to the cost won't it?
What about paint? If the boxes aren't black I aint riding them!!! Or pink, they can be pink...

Yep ya right ply is not cheap and no that isn't factored into my costs. Dave you are right anythjing but marine will go to dog poo. Black is good but maybe a little something else to set it off as well. This weekend I just gina

hmm, steel with wood against it holds moisture, promotes rust. It wont be too much of a concern though, my last skateramp ( I sold it last year ) was 25mm square section tube, and apart from a bit of surface rust it's still very strong. Not bad for over 10 yrs out in the open... Steel tube is often finished in a light blue paint anyway, so we'll just paint the welds and any other exposed areas. If I can find bits of salvage steel, I wanna practice my welding and construction, so I'll tinker around at home and see what "creations" emerge. Just need to buy a drop saw....

Even if you use the larger size tubing for the mains, and smaller tubes for bracing that is another way.... I've still got paint in various colours..... the tubes should be galvanised so all you have to do is paint around the welds.
I've got the tickets from the zanzi bar so I'l bring them on sunday.
So is it going to be freo then?
How about starting at the north mole side and then moving to cot?

Also have you thought of making up templates to paint on logo's?

In that case we'll meet at the Lot at 2 pm, and we'll all head for the coast together. That'll give the guys coming by train an easy place to meet us. Also gives us a chance to decide on what we'll be doing; If we're lucky the front will have passed by then, but it will still cloudy with strong winds.
I'd love to make logo's and stuff but I aint going to at this stage. Haven't ever heard back from Kuba's friend either, who was going to do some up for us. Anyones welcome to jump on my computer here to see if there's something you can use. Pretty much all good pictures are already up on the net.
If you really want a logo and we're strapped for time I'm sure we can borrow one from somewhere...

have to say I really enjoyed riding the NthMole and Cott. (and the Lot of course ). Robin, your Spoko Moloko Choko vid cd was in the laptop case the whole time - DOH! Might be missing next week's ride too, just remembered I have a function to attend next Sunday. Will try to make it though.
