it's been a while since I did any triganometry, so could some one help me. If I have triangle with 3 different lengths, the angle between the verticle and horizontal is 90 deg, and the length of the horizontal is a, the vertical is b, how do I work out the oblique angle c??

To work out the oblique angle c you consume large amounts of alcohol and write "I am a fish", problem solved. Not really, sorry brad!

the length of the third side, the angled side, is the square root of the sum of the other two sides squared... ie a=5, b=6 c=?
(5*5)+(6*6)= 25+36= 61
c=Square Root of 61
c=7.8102.....
hope this helps, and the rule is actually called 'Pythagoras' if you want to search it up on the net. (might help some more).
if you need some help figuring out the angles formed at the other two corners than just ask, i'll post some formula to help you out. btw i am not a complete squid or nerd, just did 5 years of the dog poo at school.

Err... although I honestly doubt james' method, it does sound somewhat interesting.....
I was thinking of pythagoras too, ash; but brad's asking for an oblique angle... There's two of them: one at the end of "a" and one at the end of "b"
You sure you worded your question right brad?
If you do want those angles, remember Chief SohCahToa?! sin,cos,tan; opposite,adjacent,hypotenuse
See ash; it's allright to be a squid as long as you ride bikes.
What's this for anyway?

yep, Robin's on the right track.
In a right triangle:
tan (angle)=opposite side/adjacent side.
Also, for any triangle with sides ABC, with angles a,b,c opposite respectively:
A/sina=B/sinb=C/sinc.
Lastly, pizza is better reheated in a conventional oven, as opposed to a microwave.

oops, forgot to mention: Robin, in the Notices section, the date for the WAMBA demo is missing the '2' in '23'rd...... get it RIGHT!!!!!

...|\............. ...|b\............ ...|--\............ ...|---\.......... .A|----\C....... ...|-----\........ ...|c___a\....... ......B............
angle a = tan^(-1)(A/B) (ie. shift tan(A/B) if u use a scientific calculator) angle b = tan^(-1)(B/A) (ie. shift tan(B/A) if u use a scientific calculator) angle c = 90 degrees
if wan can count, so can you.

geez you lot are a buntch of math heads.
I managed to delve back into the memory bank and pulled out the pythagoras as well. Gee its been a while since I've used that. 1995 to be igsacted. Can you tel I was better at maths tham my english. ;D
