Guys, Just got off the phone with Paul from PMBC. There's a good chance we might be joining PMBC as a group. The idea behind it: at the moment, the trials scene is just too small to organise and run events like competitions and demos. Our group would be completely blanketed under PMBC - just like their downhill, slalom, and mtb divisions. We'd run competitions/demos inconjunction with them and we'll try and get full insurance coverage under the same scheme.
Insurance under PMBC would also allow us to get a busking licence (very cheap!) from City council. Me'n pieter have been looking a while at doing mini-shows in the city itself.
Also just got an e-mail from Rod from Biketrials Aust. He was asking whatever happened to our side of trying to get a national round organised. The way I see it - we can't do it the way it's going now; there's simply not enough interest. Perhaps if we run under PMBC it might become a possibility after all towards the end of the year.
Guys, been getting very little feedback to posts I did put down. Any questions/comments/suggestions?

hmm at first i was thinking ahh what's the point, we just ride, no point in paying money for it. but would be good to get a regular competition season going, even though we all already know where we are at skill wise. Trials comps at mtb comps attract a good crowd, and most ppl can appreciate what you're doing rather than "is there a point to that?" but how much is membership??? membership form says $90... that's a bit much to ask for some of the guys who will probably only compete if they feel like it, and so it will divide the riders a bit. We probably also have to get involved in some of the bulldog poo/politics, such as committe meetings and laying out the rules and regulations of the competition, so it's not as informal as what we usually do. Other stuff like compulsory number plate on the handlebar (it gets in the way) when we know everyone by name was an issue back when we did some comps ages ago. and we will have to get up in the mornings. hmmmm but eventually the aim is to spark some interest with the kiddies, and the mtb comps are a good place to do that. so maybe you can get the details of membership costs and the like, robin? hey here is some perth mototrials action www.sportspix.com.au/CHITT/anyone know any more about them? i'm keen to go watch/ bring my bike for a bit of a joke

Normal membership would be $90 (annual). These membership fees are mainly to cover insurance. However, there is an option to simply pay $10 for day memberships at single events - this could well be better for some riders.
Might sound like a lot; but you also get fed, and the crowd could really help. Not to mention major aid in organising. Anyway, I'm looking into it.
Like you said; getting regular comps going would be nice...
Don't worry 'bout yer politics neil, those can be sorted out... ;D
By the way; Pieter and Paul finished our Manjimup demo vid. Very nice. I've put it on SVCD and made a nice CD cover. Will send it out to some places.

I mean the promo side (getting people to come watch) - that's all basically done for us if we'd just join in with them. Obviously all the trials gear we'd have to bring in ourselves.

I'm joining in on a PMBC meeting tonight at 7 pm to see if this'll go ahead and how we're going to work insurance if so. If anyone wants to join in for whatever reason let me know. Might be looking at an agenda also.

Guys... Went to this meet & things are starting to roll. Thanks neil for offering to come; pity you couldn't make it.
WATrialz will be joining PMBC. Expect to start seeying some more events popping up. (Competitions, demo's etc).
PMBC has kindly agreed to cover the cost for TWO of our riders' insurance policies for demo purposes. (that's $180 worth). They don't usually sponsor, and for a non-profit organisation it's a generous offer. Thanks to Pieter for making the manjimup promo vid - it was a big part in gaining their attention. The purpose of this insurance is to gain a busking licence for city of perth so we can do demo's on Hay street. In return, we'll be adding the PMBC logo to our t-shirts (same ones we used for the Manjimup demo). Since paul is no longer in town, I think it's fair that we put the insurance under the names of me and pieter. If you are also interested in taking part, let me know. You may have to pay for your own membership, but I can try and squeeze one more out (don't expect it though). The main reason we're going for the busking licences is to get attention; yes we might make a bit of money out of it but I don't really expect it to be much...
In addition, as we're joining PMBC they require a rep from our group to join them (going to meets & organising our side of things). If no-one minds I'll take that spot.
Likely first event we'll be joining in with them is the 12 hour challenge. This is on Novermber 27/28th in Jarrahdale and is a fairly large occasion with decent lead-up media coverage (Channel 10). We'll try and get a demo & comp organised from our side, and will try and get a bit of the $7000 in prizes for our riders also.
In addition we briefly discussed getting a single round of the national trials series organised here. Looking at putting it with the X-country state championships (best coverage/crowd/location).

yeah cool robin - just remember watrialz is for all of us, so keeping the group from being segregated is important. after all, we are all dog poo compared to the pros, so it's not an issue of "i'm better than dave" or whatever. (sorry dave ) ooooo comp hey wikid

Haha, yeah that one came up.... It's a 13 km track in hilly terrain; do laps on the trials bike for 12 hours. It's ok, we can have teams of up to 4 people...
Fair point btw - important to keep weekly rides going & keep the "group" feel alive. You have a list of all the riders don't you? Including Tom, daniel, & eystein (after our brief ride this weekend, he's gone interstate for a while....)
Cheers for the feedback.

This is great, I have been out practising 2 times a week and really getting much better plus the rides I have been able to squeeze in with Neil, I got my new drive train running which has made riding much better.
I am very keen to join in as many group rides as possible and the PMBC comps.
My new brakes and parts are coming in soon

Hmm... PMBC just retracted their offer for sponsorship... Not very nice... We'll join in another meeting and try and get em rallied up. Will still be trying to coordinate events with them though. All for fun.

Hey why did they pull back the sponsership ??

|
|
Post by admin on Sept 6, 2004 15:20:44 GMT 8
Dunno... But it was pretty frustrating though; first its a "unanimous decision to sponsor" and now it's a "unanimous decision to retract". Screw that...

Hey, the best places for sponsorships are the random ones you don't expect anything from. Haha... Though hooters WOULD be interesting. Wonder what kind of sponsorship they'd give us? (Umbrella girls??? ;D) If you have any contacts from random places I have a nice "promo package" I've been sending out. Just let me know how many you want.
How about one day we do what Neil Price said they did: Just get together, make a nice promo package, go through the yellow pages and send off to absolutely everyone...

To keep you all updated: Though we're still going to keep doing as much stuff with PMBC as possible, and I'll still go to all their meets - I think we'd be better off registering our group seperately with MTBA. (Please comment)
This so we can do ALL of our own insurance work and get it organised & not have to worry about the rest. I think annual cost is $100 a year (which comes out of the pot). I'll look into to it.
There's a couple of groups starting to organise "technical skills" sessions for MTB and DH. Obvious place for us to be also - I don't mind teaching kids and riding.
