when dave and i got to kings park today, there were some dj guys setting up some speakers in the little ampitheatre thingo at the corner of may and saw, to put on some free entertainment for anyone who cared to listen. Also there were the rangers telling these guys to pack up and move on, with their rule books and papers and whatnot. We started off riding just over the other side where the rangers were out of sight.
3 hours later at the western power parklands 500m down the road, there is a stage set up in the area where they show the movies, and there was a band playing some crapo african buldog poo music. there was hardly anyone there, everyone was in the park which the stage faces away from. all legitimate there, with channel 9 banners and some other corporate advertising.
it really pisses me off how people doing something which is victimless and free always get told to go away, while whenever a large company or a tv station is involved, it's just a matter of KP giving the most advertising mileage.
the exact same thing happened a couple of months ago. down the road in russell square it's fine for the f*gs to have their parade which makes alot of noise, and which some people find quite offensive, while a band playing some rock music in a front yard on newcastle street on a sunday arfternoon was shut down after 15 minutes by the cops.
and now to riding; the public liability bulldog poo is simply a way for fat men in suits to make money out of mountain biking, and everything else.
back a couple of years ago marcus and i got told to move on by a ranger in KP, in what is now the western power parklands. it was a weekday, and there was a total of 2 other people there; a granny in a wheelchair and her partner.
western power has obviously paid a fair sum to KP to completely renovate that area, and name it after themselves. today that place was absolutely full with families and kids, most of which were running around the playground. the playground involves a rather large wood fort, which has a dog poo load of stairs, and heaps of other stuff. So KP encourages 200 kids to run up and down stairs, jump around on playgrounds and generally do stuff which kids do at maximum speed while yelling and eating icecream all at once. Yet a couple of (semi)professional bike riders who know what they are doing and ride knowing their limits are not welcome at all. It seems that when there is some money in it for KP then all is fine.
What happens when the sponsorship runs out? I suppose KP just goes back to getting new stuff built funded with public money, after johnny sends over some troops to die in someone else's war.
anyway, we probably would of got told to move on alot earlier if there wasn't crowds of people there. imagine a where's wally book, where, on one page there is a fluro green wally making elephant noises and knowone else, and the next page where there is a flouro green wally amongst hundreds of other people:) so i suppose we got the last laugh today.
(and we rode up (me 1/2 down too) the dna tower hehehe)
( i've/we've also never recieved so many applauses.. must be that christmas cheer)
